In the United States the Super Bowl is a huge opportunity for a brand to showcase a great TV ad. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! So if you are going to reach a big audience with a commercial, Fùtbol not Football (American) is the way to go. VW has proven that it knows how to play this game pretty well, but this year Nissan is fielding a challenge. Both commercials have a car driving through a tunnel and GOAAAAAAAL! Who did it better?
Score 1-0 VW
Have you found any cool car commercials from the World Cup?

Have to go with VW. Though I am a bit biased - the car in that spot is my car's twin!

Kia. The end.

They all suck because celebrity endorsements are gay. Who buys a car because they saw a celebrity drive it?

Kia World Cup commercial? Linky-link please.

There's generally only one opportunity to show television adverts during a game of football - half time - so it's not quite treated in the same way as the Super Bowl. Plenty of advertising, but it's more along the lines of displays around the edge of the stadium, and sponsorship logos on the players' uniforms... Come to think of it, it actually works a lot like racing.

Actually, I don't know if those viewership numbers tell the entire story. While, cumulatively, more people watch the World Cup during the entire extended event, isn't the SuperBowl the most watched single event right now? I believe that it is, which means each second of advertising is the most valuable.

That is a good point

That first one with the high school team, definitely most effective. I appreciate the gut shot too.

As always, americans (the ones n charge of the Nissan commercial) portray Mexico as a ranch with a scrappy bus, and a town apparently without a sewage system. You know, this is Mexico as well:
I am not generalizing, but I just hate when they don't show the full picture. Also, I understand that the shot was taken as it passed the border, which is pretty crappy.

Not true.
2010 World Cup: FIFA says 909.6 million television viewers watched at least one minute of the 2010 World Cup final at home between Spain and the Netherlands, and the total likely topped a billion when adding online and public places.
http://espn.go.com/sports/soccer/…
2010 Super Bowl: US viewership: 106.5 million est. avg., 153.4 million est. total [4]

No way a stock optima sounds anything like that.

Yeah, that's what I noticed in those advertisements. The sound the car made.

Absolutely brilliant stuff.

No, because I've been too busy watching 24 hour le mans practice. I just can't watch soccer. Can't do it.

Videos of attractive women are a dime a dozen on the internet.
Four inch downpipes and high-flow converters on a stock KIA? That's something new.

There are no sponsor logos on the jerseys for the World Cup noob.

The World Cup final probably has more viewers than the Super Bowl.

Not sure you know what a downpipe is.

Cumulatively, over several weeks, most certainly. For one three-hour block, I'm fairly certain the SuperBowl has that beat - and for quite some time now.

Doug, super bowl had about 150 million viewrs in 2010, the world cup FINAL match had over 900 million....The average official rating was 188.4 million for each match of the 2010 world cup.
![]() 06/13/2014 at 17:18 |

I meant the actual final game, not the whole competition. Anyway, the world cup happens once every 4 years, vs the SuperBowl's once per year, so the numbers would be quite close when you look at it that way.
![]() 06/13/2014 at 17:32 |

Yeah, probably. Suffice it to say, none of those rascals are hurting for money...
